THE POCKET ORCHESTRA

“THE POCKET ORCHESTRA”.

Skilled musicians are invited to be recorded 15 min. Freejazz // Improvisation // Solo // Meditation directly onto cassette tape.

Together, these recordings provide a collection of hard backing grooves and some long stretches of solo material, of extremely high quality.

The exciting thing happens when they are arbitrarily put together and it just swings!

You cannot run away from talent. These people can simply jam without being together and without even knowing each other!!!

Time and space does nor exist. Politeness and competition is canceled out. The energy is on.

This is a small, but ultra intense, pocket-orchestra that I can pick up and play on any given occasion.

Tape Jockeying.

Improv / noise concerts as well as live performances on various radio stations and music stages worldwide.

The material is recycled endlessly and will always be changeable.

The project started in 2018 with recordings of a small handful of established names and emerging artists from the freeJazz environment.

Ex. Jaleh Negari, Oliver Hoiness, Kristian Tangvik, Mads Egetoft, Maria Bertel, Niels Vinzent, Soma Allpass, Oda Dyrness, Maria Dybbroe, Andreas Røysum, Erik Kimestad, Rune Loshe, Peter Tinning, Henriette Groth, Jacob Funch, Torben Snekkestad, Ying-Hsueh Chen, Irene Bianco, Randi Pontoppidan, Søren Kjærgaard.

Photo Rona Yefman
Work in progress. A collaboration with photographer Rona Yefman (IL/USA. We assigned to document what Pippi would be like as an adult.

But the piece presented here is PIPPI IN ABU DIS.

Pippi tries to crumble the wall that separates Israel from Palestine first by using the chamber tone, which is shouted against the wall. Next follows an  attempt to lift it.

Our joint photo and video works, has been presented around the world for the past years at venues that have particularly aimed at reflections on space, territories, women's struggle, organization and identity.

THE VAGINAL PHONOGRAM

Recording with Loke Rahbek, The original track.
Another work that has made a name for itself is KUSSEN, a vaginal phonogram (2010). The work was created after six months of pregnancy. I was invaded and curious. Cell division is an intense affair, but what does it sound like? The investigations turned into a series of En noise performances, as a pregnant woman, in the feedback genre with a condenser microphone installed in my vagina and cross-cut on feeds through pedals by Loke Rahbek (Posh Isolation).

The work has since been included in various installations with various musicians invited over, e.g. Mikkel Hess (drums), Henrik Vibskov (drums), Agnetha Christensen (vocals), Jonathan Aardestrup (bass) and Ida Bach Jensen (bass). The work has been curated for various festivals with the theme of body, gender and identity.

And been curated and performed again later with out a imbryo.

ABU DIS

One work that stands up for itself is ABU DIS (2007), a sonic analysis of the fanatical defense that Israel has built along the entire West Bank. A contact microphone is drawn across the surface of the wall on both sides of the wall and its surface texture screeches, howls  screams. The recordings where put together with a minimal pan, to give both places equal space and to maintain the monumental feeling of blocked presence. The attitude towards the Separation Wall is up to the audience and their personal experience of perceiving the overwhelming condensed sound on their body when entering the exhibition. The work has been installed in a sea of galleries and museums at home and abroad, often at exciting joint exhibitions with a political orientation.

The monochrome slides for the projectors where made by contracting colours from a picture taken on site and then photographed into slide-films. The contact-sheets turned out gray in gray representing the visual (and emotional) experience of the wall, the place and the near by surroundings.
